It was a lovely April evening. Michael and I had just finished eating at one of our favorite places in celebration of our baby's birth. We arrived at the hospital at 10pm on the 10th and stayed the night, eager and waiting to start inducing at 5am.
The night sleep was rough due to anticipation and the fact that I was having small contractions all night.
Morning came and the nurse brought the Pitocin drip. After much needle-poking and blood drawing, they got the IV in me and began the Pitocin. However, I only got a few drops in me before the nurse had to shut it off. The contractions came instantly and extremely intense. I was going into labor naturally at exactly 39 weeks.
After about an hour, the contractions were so intense that I begged for an epidural. (I thanked the anesthesiologist repeatedly.) as soon as the lower half of my body went numb, about 10 minutes later, I was at 10 centimeters and was ready to push.
My doctor hadn't arrived yet so I was with a nurse doing "practice pushes."
I did about three pushes with her then when my doctor arrived, I did another three pushes. After 5 minutes, Lucy was out.
When they plopped her gooey little body on my stomach I couldn't believe what just happened.
Everything happened so fast that I felt like I didn't have a chance to take it all in. I couldn't believe I had just given birth to my daughter.
I started crying tears of joy after the shock wore off.
My little girl was finally here!
The day I took the pregnancy test 9 months ago, I asked God to please bless me with a little girl. The bible says that He will give us the desires of our hearts if it glorifies Him. So I asked Him for a girl and I said I would tell everyone this story if He would do so.
Every single night, without fail, as I would fall asleep, I would pray for a girl. Lo and behold, we found out at 20 weeks that she was, in fact, a girl. THANK YOU JESUS!
God gifted Michael and myself with an amazing son and a beautiful daughter. I am in awe everyday of them and I give all the glory to God.
